The Giant Classroom
Our classroom transcends the normal school classroom. It provides the opportunity for your students to be involved in a classroom that spans the country and the world. In The Giant Classroom students engage in activities with students from all over Australia and New Zealand and from other parts of the world.
The Giant Classroom meets teachers' needs.
For schools and teachers The Giant Classroom provides specific programs in Social Studies and Science which require the students to:-
• Work collaboratively
• Develop research skills
• Integrate the use of IT into the classroom
• Develop analytical skills
• Interpret information from a variety of sources
• Think creatively
• Develop observation skills
• Participate in nationwide programs
• Work autonomously
The Giant Classroom has evolved from a small group of classroom teachers who in 1992 saw the potential for information and communications technology to be applied in the classroom. After more than a decade of evolution The Giant Classroom is now a significant cooperative providing programs for social studies and science teachers in both primary and high schools.
We believe that computers are an excellent educational tool. However we also believe that the teacher is the central plank of any educational program. Consequently The Giant Classroom aims to produce programs that:
• Empower teachers and students to use the latest technology
• Engage students in activities that develop thinking and reasoning skills
• Provide high quality support materials for teachers to use in classrooms
• Provide teachers with resources in areas where they do not have expertise
• Support collaborative learning activities with the computer as a tool, not the central focus of the activity
• Both teachers and students enjoy
Confidentiality Policy
This policy covers how Giant Classroom treats personal information. Personal information is information about you that is personally identifiable like your name, address, email address and school. The basis of Giant Classroom's confidentiality policy is that we collect the minimum information necessary to provide educational services for teachers.
General
• When you register we ask for information such as your name, email address and school contact details. We do not collect personal information from either teachers or students.
• The Giant Classroom automatically receives and records information on our server logs from your browser, including your IP address, Giant Classroom cookie information, and the page you request.
• The Giant Classroom uses this information for planning our server requirements and other technical needs.
Teachers
• Giant Classroom uses the information provided by teachers to contact them in subsequent years to notify them of the information relevant to the current year.
• You can edit your Giant Classroom Account Information at any time.
Children
• The Giant Classroom does not ask a child under age 18 for personal contact details.
• Student information is linked in the database to their school and teacher. The information collected does not provide the opportunity for students to be contacted directly. This can only occur if students contact the Giant Classroom directly seeking help.
• The Giant Classroom will not contact children under age 18 unless receiving a direct request about the operation of any of our programs. Wherever possible copies of the request from the student and reply from Giant Classroom will also be forwarded to the supervising teacher.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
• The Giant Classroom does not rent, sell or share personal information about you collected in connection with your use of the Giant Classroom programs with other people or non-affiliated companies.
• We limit access to personal information about you to Giant Classroom employees who we believe reasonably need to come into contact with that information to provide support services to you or in order to do their jobs.
• Your Giant Classroom Account Information is password-protected.
